There is a new study being published that was done with over 145,000 subjects over 10 years. Eating processed meats - you know -the ones with the most MSG added - sausage, hot dogs, and lunch meats like Boar's Head, caused a person's colon cancer risk to rise to 50%. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/news/39637.html
The main difference I can see between processed meats and fresh is that processed meats contain additives - additives like MSG. The other is that processed food has been abused more - less vitamins, less taurine, less protective substances. You have that from me - a former food processing engineer. They have to add flavorings to add back what they've killed. Think about this - in the food business, home-made taste was the holy grail. Whatever we could make in the factory was always a pale imitation of what grandma could do. That is why food network is so popular. People are starting to wake up - home-made is best. Lately I bought a meat slicer. We now cook our own cuts of fresh meat and slice it for sandwiches. No more processed cold cuts for us.

When I think of all the chemicals/preservatives, MSG in processed meats, I literally get nauseas....I remember that my entire childhood and most of my adulthood, we ate so much of that highly processed form of meat. My aunt died of colon cancer....first cancer in our family in remembered history. She lived alone and subsisted on cured meat products and fast foods.

Now what do they think is causing the cancer??? They will say it is the nitrates or the red meat. MSG will not even be considered, I bet.
