Great book that Judy recommended way back in Dec 2000. I finally had the time to read it. Pretty upsetting. It is actually enough to make you swear off food from places like McDonald's and Burger King. Not only for the ingredients but the business practices too. This book explores in detail the corporate mentality of franchises and marketing things to children while exploiting their labor. It is really a well rounded book that explains why our towns across the US are becoming cookie cutter versions of each other, as well as our food and exactly why that is so bad. Many people are reading "Fast Food Nation" and although, unfortunately, it does not go into MSG specifically, it does mention obesity.
I can't wait to get the new "Food Politics" book too.

Gee, I wonder what could be in fast food that would increase asthma? Hmmm? What on earth could it be?

Again with collaring the innocent bystander and letting the real perp off the hook. They think (gasp) HAMBURGERS are the evil cause of asthma. God forbid it was the MSG in the fast food at hamburger establishments that affected asthma. Even the FDA in 1995 concluded that MSG did affect asthma. I can't take it anymore :o

Feel your frustration, too, Carol! It's like idiots (or worse) are running the food science research centers.

Roy, It's an excellent book. I wrote to the author a few years ago and told her about the MSG-obesity link. To my complete dismay, she did not understand the connection. Aside from her close-mindedness about that issue, her book is well worth reading.
