Some light reading! For more, I suggest use of the search engine at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi
Do various searches using monosodium and glutamate. You can sort by date too. There is alot more out there.

Responses of the rat chorda tympani nerve to glutamate-sucrose mixtures.
Chem Senses. 2004 Jul;29(6):473-82.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) treatment, which induces weight gain and alters body growth in wild-type (wt) mice, further aggravates the growth defect of PPARgamma +/- mice.

Density, but not shape, of hippocampal dendritic spines varies after a seizure-inducing acute dose of monosodium glutamate in rats.
Neurosci Lett. 2004 Jun 3;363(1):22-4.

Adrenal medullary function and expression of catecholamine-synthesizing enzymes in mice with hypothalamic obesity treated with MSG.

Inhibition of short-term memory formation in the chick by blockade of extracellular glutamate uptake.
Neurobiol Learn Mem. 2004 Mar;81(2):115-9.

“The loss of GABA(B) receptor-mediated disinhibitory stimulation of norepinephrine release is an age-related phenomenon and ii) neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment causes a damage in the local neural circuitry characterized by the loss of glutamate receptor-mediated mechanism that stimulates the release of norepinephrine.”
Life Sci. 2004 Feb 13;74(13):1573-80.

Good reading, thanks MEMorrisNJ. I've lost over 40 pounds since February 4th 2004 by cutting out MSG and I feel great. People are starting to take notice and ask me questions. I ordered two more of Deb's books this week for two of my five kids. My oldest was asking me a lot of questions last weekend and will find these reports very helpful and interesting. My middle adult daughter is having the same side effects from injesting MSG as you do Deb A., so I think the light bulb will go on if I can get her to read your story. Thanks everyone for contributing to this site!!!

MEMorrisNJ, you always give us so much good information. I plan to share these studies with many family members, too. THANK YOU!
Carol S., I'm so happy for you. It sure is nice when our own improved health makes others stop and take notice. I hope that your daughter will relate to my story. Over the years, we have heard from so many individuals who said that reading that story is what convinced them that MSG was the cause for their illnesses, too. I'm so glad that I wrote it, including all the personal details. It was hard, but knew many others out there HAD to be experiencing what I had gone through. Best wishes to you and for your family's health.

Deb A. Thank you so much for writing your story Deb. It's amazing how when we help others it comes back to help us in the long run. Keep up the great work Deb!!

Thanks, Carol. I couldn't do it alone. I have so much appreciation for all of the wonderful people I have met along the way (especially here!), who continue this work and add so much to what Mike and I can do. You're right about it coming back...the reward of helping others is the amazing high one gets when someone's life has been lifted....just because they actually listened!
