I am glad to report that I am doing much better. In October, my diet was reduced to whole unprocessed milk. I was reacting to everything else. A friend of a friend shared info about the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, TX. I have been going to the clinic off and on for almost a month, 13 days total. I am now up to 26 safe foods (non-reactive) and I am taking food antigens for 16 more. Within a couple of weeks, I will begin rotating in 8 more foods, one per week. Dr. William Rea is my physician. He is a board certified cardiovascular surgeon who developed toxicities 25 years ago and continued his education in environmental medicine. He is well-credentialed. He is very respectful of msg. I had a battery of tests performed the first week. I am glad to report that my immune system, my detox system, and blood counts are as they should be. There is a research team on site at the clinic, and I see my physician each day. My thermography test showed no organ toxicity. My toxicity was moth balls, nine times the detected limit. The highest they have seen at the clinic in the 23 years they have been in service. I dry sauna each day I am there, and I receive IV therapy 2 to 3 times per week. My IVs contain glutathione, taurine, B5, and Merrick Vitamin C (the only vitamin C safe for me.) I have ordered a poplar wood and glass sauna for our home. My food sensitivity testing is through serial dilution endpoint skin testing with neutralization. The testing is slow, but the benefit is that only one food at a time is tested, and it is neutralized before you move on. Antigen therapy is based on the individual's end point (the dilution at which they no longer react.) The clinic is a controlled environment, no carpets, no chemicals, stainless steel walls, etc. No colognes, scented care products are allowed. I also stay in a controlled environment apartment while in Dallas. Gosh, things are looking up. I have shared this website (msgmyth.com) with people from all over the world that I met there. My testing showed my intestines and detox tracts are as clean as a whistle...thanks to you all. I am deficient in Vitamin B. I receive B5 in my IV, but I am having to take antigen therapy for the oral vitamin...Do any of you take a safe Vitamin B? I also need more magnesium...I have reacted to all tested thus far. Are any of you taking a safe magnesium? The IV additives bind to toxicities in my body and help me to get rid of them. One of the physicians (Dr. Kathy Henry) performed a free T3 test on me. This is very different from other thyroid tests I have had done previously. The findings showed that I am deficient in free T3. Dr. Rea had a pharmacy in Dallas compound a safe T3 for me to take daily. My low free T3 was explained as an adaptive change to conserve energy related to low calorie intake. I am using a 4 day rotational diet...according to the food groups. Dr. Overberg (nutritional doctor) spent time reviewing glutamate and how our body makes glutamate, and how we rid ourselves of it. I will be testing for sensitivity to Argenine soon, and if okay, I will add that daily. This will help to get the glutamate out of my body. Needless to say, we have removed the millions of moth ball products in our home. An onsite educator at the clinic has helped us in moving forward to make our home safe. We have removed all carpeting, and replacing it with porcelain tile. We have ordered paint with no VOCs and will be using only hard woods. We also had to order formaline free sheetrock for additional walls. It was interesting to learn that many of the patients there first developed sensitivities as they moved into new construction or renovated buildings and homes. It seems I experienced the spreading phenom. in that I became toxic to moth balls, developed multiple other chemical sensitivities...including msg. I apologize for the length of this message. Do know that there are physicians out there that can help us...not many. There are only 3 clinics as such in the world. Another is in New York. I am not sure where the third clinic is located. p.s. they doubled my intake of CoQ10, which aids in the citric acid cycle...I flunked metabolism of fats and carbs. I only weight 113 (5"10"), but soon will gain a little weight as my dietary intake continues to expand. Thanks so much to Deb, Mike, and the rest of you who have been such great help. I am looking forward to hearing from you all regarding B Vitamins and Magnesium. Thanks so very much.

p.s. I have been removed from all antihistamines, even Benadryl. If I react to the anything at all, I inject my endpoints of histamine and/or seratonin. Eventhough I have been a registered nurse for 27 years, injecting myself was a great hurdle.

Jackie, www.beyondacentury.com sells a powdered form of magnesium orotate, and also a powdered B6...they may have other powdered forms of B vitamins.
Thank you for your update and valuable info.

Anonymous,

VOC's are Volatile Organic Compounds. Most paints have them. They are described in the link below.

Anonymous,
The name of the clinic is Northeast Center for Environmental Medicine, Sherry Rogers, MD, Medical Director, 2800 W. Genesse ST., PO Box 2716, Syracuse, NY. 13220-2716;(315)488-2856. In regard to the volatile organic compounds, AFM Safecoat paints have no VOCs. We painted the ceiling of our closet yesterday..no scent, and it dried within minutes. I am extremely sensitive to all chemicals, and it did not bother me at all. We also placed porcelain tile with non-toxic glue and grout...it did not bother me either. Roy has posted a great website. I received most of my education at the Env. Health Center. Read all that you can, and then read some more. It is amazing how contaminated we can become living in our world today. A great resource is Less-Toxic Alternatives, Revised Edition, by Carolyn Gorman with Marie Hyde. It covers A to Z. Sherry Rogers also has a new book, The E.I. Syndrome. This site (msgmyth.com) is absolutely the greatest.

Jackye,
Wow that's great you found a doctor and are doing better. I haven't found one. But, I left the place I was renting (toxic mold on furnace coils, who knew) about 7 months ago. At the time I could only eat apples, pears and pecans. Now I can eat most fruits, meat and a few vegetables. (only organic food) I totally say away from anykind of chemicals in food and as much as possible with soaps and etc. I have a chemical sensitivity now, but it getting better in time. Just last week someone sprayed air freshener in the changing room of the store I was at. I got ill and forgot what store I was at. My poor husband was looking for me at the wrong store. Any good sites are tips would be great. My email address is Sunnydaysj180@aol.com.

Do you know of a product that would be great for mopping floors?

Jennifer,
I am not as sensitive to chemicals as you but I use a product called Citra-Solv to mop my floors. My whole house is laminate flooring and i will NOT use lysol or pine sol. Citra solv uses orange extracts so some people may have a problem with that. It smells just like fresh oranges and works like a dream. I actually use it to remove grease stains from my laundry as well. It is sold in most health food stores in a concentrated form.

Does it have a strong odor? Because I can't be around strong odors at all. Can't even pump gas for my car yet or go to stores with candles or church, because of the perfumes. Thanks for the help.

`Jennifer, I am super sensitive to odors, too. I purchased a silk mask with a charcoal filter and carry it in a cellophane bag in my purse. (Plastic bags have corn in them.) In regard to floor cleansers, I use 1/4 cup vinegar to one gallon of water....I have replaced my flooring with porcelain tile. ECOVER has a product that is good for natural tile, non-wax surfaces, marble, slate and natural linoleum called Natural Floor Soap. It contains water, linseed oil based soap, and scent from plant material. I have never used this, but have been told it has little odor.To view other safe products: www.aehf.com. How long have you had your chemical sensitivity? You give me hope that as my chemical sensitivity improves, so will my food choices. I will stay in touch via e-mail. Stay tuned into this site...it is wonderful!

I just purchased a mask with a charcoal filter. (this week) (It's still not here.) But, it wasn't silk. I've never seen a silk one with a charcoal filter. If so I would have bought that one. I'm a bit worried that this might smell. But, I didn't see anything better and really wanted one.

Well, it was a slow breakdown of everyone in my family. (6 years of living at that place) My son was the first to get sick and we couldn't get any answers. Three years after he showed worse symptoms it hit me hard. That made it easier for me to understand what he was going through. He was just a little boy and kids have some trouble explaining things.

Slowly over those years I became chemical sensitivity. I can't go to a lot of places or do things I use to. But, I've learned to work around things. In order to have a computer we have to store it in our free bathroom and turn on the exhaust fan, so the smell isn't bad. The screen and keyboard is on a table mostly made of steal. We bought a vacuum and it smells so bad. When I turned it on it smells like burning plastic, so we can't use it. I don't know what to do about vacuum. We are renting again, so I can't just take the carpet out. Would be nice to have hard floors.

We eat really healthy and try to stay away from chemicals as much as we can. That's really all I do. If I do get exposed to something I have to be really careful for a few days. Because I'll be hypersensitivity to things I use to tolerate well. Plus, I always think "this too will pass" and in time it does.

When things are going well for a while I'll try to introduce a new food and I only introduce a new food one at a time. Try it one day and wait a few days and try it again if the test went well. But, I'm also very careful not to eat to much of the new food, because I don't want to push my system. So, I take things slow. Plus, I really only drink water. I might juice an orange for OJ every once in a while. Mostly when I have a cold. Vitamin C is good for a cold. Sugar breaks down your immune system, so I don't eat it. I might have maple syrup, because it shocks my system less. (I know it's a sugar, but it enters the body slower and you don't get a big sugar rush. Plus, I really don't add much syrup to my cookies or cakes.)

Everyone in our family is healing at a different rate.

I have a sauna question. I've been thinking for a while to try it. It's really really cold here. Is it ok to be in a dry sauna and then go out? How long do you have to wait before you go out into the cold?

You can email me anytime. I use to have aol at the old place. I'm so sorry, I made a boo boo. My email address is sunnydaysj180@yahoo.com.

Hears to healing, Jennifer

Jennifer,
Gosh...your response is very helpful to me! It gives me hope. It is so difficult to go slowly when you are sooo hungry. I went back to the clinic in Dallas yesterday for sauna. In regard to going out into the cold. They recommend a shower immediately after sauna...to wash the toxins away from your body. I went outside 20 minutes after my sauna..it was 35 degrees. I have had no ill effect. We bought our sauna from Heavenly Heat. It takes 4 weeks to build. Poplar wood is recommended, less toxic. You sound so much like many of the patients at the Environmental Health Center. You may want to give Dr. Sherry Rogers a call in New York. She was a patient of my physician's (Dr. William Rea)at one time. Thanks for the current e-mail address. Brain fog does terrible things! I will stay in touch.

Regarding your question about vacuum cleaners, my son has allergies and we bought a Filter Queen vacuum cleaner. It is supposed to be really good for keeping the dust particles/allergens in the vacuum and not recirculating them into the air. They are quite expensive new but we got ours on ebay for a 1/3 of the price. Just a thought

Jackye:

Do please continue to let us know how you are doing with the treatment at the Environmental Health Center. It sounds like a great place.
