I've haven't found primary doctor that knows about MSG. So, I've been having a tuff time. Right now I have strep throat and I need a doctor who can treat that w/o anything that includes MSG. |

Dr.'s Smith and Banks along with NP Jennifer work at the Ryan Headache Center in St. Louis. I have to travel from the bootheel, but seeing them has done wonders for me. Not only am I sensitive to MSG and aspertame but I also suffer from cluster headaches. Here's a link to their contact info: http://www.stjohnsmercy.org/mmg/research/headache/frontdesk.asp Along the right side of this site you'll also find out about what the Ryan Headache Center is all about. For me, they've changed my life. |

PAD, Where do you live in SE MO? I am in Cape. Just curious, maybe we need to form a support group. All of my doctors are also in St. Louis. |

While I acknowledge that I do have an aversion to MSG and am most sincerely allergic to Aspertame and nut oils I feel that my problems have been more related to stress in my life and my diagnosis of cluster headaches. Since contacting my Dr. just yesterday and going on some Prednisone I haven't had a headache, nor has MSG containing food bothered me. Sometimes a good cleansing is needed, other times good medicine. I'd be happy to discuss with you though any of your problems and if I can help, I will. |

Prednisone is used for severe allergic reactions and is thus a heavy-duty treatment for an immune system reaction that causes swelling and inflammation. MSG increases histamine response and inflammation and because it is a nervous system stimulant and it is now accepted that the nervous system does interact with the immune system, MSG increases immune response in other ways. One day without a headache may not be proof that MSG wasn't affecting you. The fact that the prednisone helped also does not mean that MSG wasn't your first problem. |

Pad - Glad you have some relief but I hope that you will not continue to use prednisone on a long term basis and continue to investigate the food additive (e.g., MSG) connection. A friend of mine took prednisone in "tiny doses" resulting in terrible osteoporosis which led to spine fractures --- she went from 5'8" to 5'4". I know there are alot of other side effects. Maybe this reference will be helpful in some way? http://www.drhoffman.com/page.cfm/159 |
