I have been reading through the posts here. I have always assumed that MSG is toxic because it acts on the body like a drug. I would assume that it was toxic in everyone, but in varying degrees depending on where it hits your system. I understand that it causes an excitoxic reaction in the body and then all sorts of other problems. However, I have noticed a few posts which sort of say that it depends on what caused your MSG sensitivity. This seems to imply that some people think that MSG sensitivity is induced by a lack of something in their own body. That if this is put right they would be able to take it again. Does anyone know the answer to this. From what I have read on the internet, and from my own problem with it, I am of the impression that it is plainly neurotoxic and I would do everything possible to avoid anything with it in, on pain of death. Thanks in advance Fran |

Fran, MSG is bad for everyone. The extreme sensitivity that some have may be due to certain other conditions that are either caused or exacerbated by MSG. In my case, my sensitivity to MSG lessened after I had an ovarian cyst removed, and also had my renal artery replaced. I am not as sensitive as my boyfriend is now. If we eat the same thing, and accidentally ingest MSG, he will get very sick - asthma usually, and I barely get a reaction. But I still avoid MSG like the plague. The damage it's doing is not always felt. |

When you see what MSG can do to your body when it's in a weakened state (yeast and leaky gut for me), you don't trust it when your condition improves. That stuff gave me a lot of migraines. We know it passes the blood brain barrier, even if a person doesn't notice symptoms, and that can't be good. |

Since we have no adequate tests on humans to determine why some of us suffer more than others due to MSG, we can only come up with theories. Dr. Blaylock and Dr. Schwartz say that 50% to 60% of the population is already reacting to excitotoxins whether they know that or not. That suggests to me that not everyone is MSG sensitive due to leaky gut, brain/head injury, illness, genetics, antibiotics, or environmental causes.....but it could be any or all of these reasons. That's why the medical world has to begin recognizing this as a very important condition worth studying....and fast! |

It seems that I have become increasingly sensitive to MSG as I became older. In the past 3 or 4 months it seem that I have had perpetual head fog and ringing in the ears. I only realized that what I had been experiencing for years was the MSG when I got into those Oriental frozen mixes. It was soooo good, and I ate the whole thing. And then it came - like fire in my brain and the burning/numbness in the mouth. Oh, but I had to do it the 2nd time to get the point. As of today 12/6/2002, it seem that I may have to quit eating altogether. |

You must learn all you can to avoid hidden MSG. This board and the info in our book, and on sites www.msgtruth.org, www.msgmyth.com, and www.truthinlabeling.org, will all help you. Be aware that you can be getting a small but steady amount of glutamate daily, that can push you over the edge towards a reaction, from things like toothpaste, vitamin pills, supplements, cosmetics, and gum. |

MSG is a neuro-stimulant, and I would say that it is not necessarily a "poison" per se. Other things are also neuro-stimualants. I have tried some of the "mono-atomic" elements. They have no MSG. They are neuro-stimulants. I have the same type reaction as I do to MSG. The burning brain, the sleep as my brain produces opiates to avoid the pain. Cocaine is a neuro-stimulant. And perhaps this is like an overdose of MSG or other such. Over-stimulation that effectively kills the brain and the person. If any of you are willing to make yourself a guinea pig. Do a search for mono-atomic elements, or white gold powder. I purchased some items under the brand name Etherium Harmonic Innerprises. These are sold as a mineral supplement. That's what they are - minerals. After having the reaction I wrote to them asking if perhaps they used a base of MSG. The said no, and If I wanted to, I could return the products for a refund. I read somewhere that their products were simply ground rock. So there is something in minerals which is a neuro-stimulant? I would agree that there is something about the body of a "sensitive" person that is giving the bad reaction. Perhaps an overload of parasites. I poo-pooed this idea for a long time, however after some recent research I find it entirely probable. And they are easy to "catch". They can live in you for years without giving their presence away. But they do cause problems, which are always attributed to something else. At present I have a hook worm in the palm of my hand. I was in the yard breaking up small branches that had fallen from a tree. I felt a prick and thought I had gotten a sliver. Couldn't see it, but it itched for a while. THen a small lump appeared. I guess the Dr. will spray it with a freeze solution which will kill it. This thing apprently had no clear way to get into the blood stream. He just picked a louzy point of entry. Mostly they get in thru the feet. DO RESEARCH HOOKWORM. Also, you can inhale tape worm eggs!! And they can lodge in your brain!! ALSO, YOU NEED TO RESEARCH THE HUMAN FLUKE. They don't call them Human Flukes for nothing. THey can get into your liver, pancreas, and I don't know what all. |

Well, it must be a fluke then that most of us here get better when we stop injesting MSG? I'm talking about seizures and atrial fibrillation. Or perhaps the worms or bugs in our systems were thriving on MSG and then died when we stopped injesting it? Just a guess. Sorry. I don't mean to make light of what you said about hook worms and such, but if you knew what pain MSG has caused so many people, you'd understand why we call it a toxin. It does destroy brain cells, after all, and causes neurodegeneration. |

All the mineral are divided into excitory and inhibitory. eg. Calcium is excitory and Magnesium is inhibitory. Same with salt and potassium etc etc. They need to be in balance..... |
