Has anyone totally reversed thyroid problems or conditions by avoiding MSG?
I think I am in one of those vicious cycles....I have been undergoing treatment for Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome...I felt great first round of medication, now I'm back to better but not like before....
I also am on a 'ton' of supplements which with the MSG factor...I just keep having wondering thoughts of going around and around in the vortex of one things sets off something which sets off something else...ya know what I mean...?
Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone had issues with hypo or hyperthyroidism and managed to get rid of it by avoiding the MSG...Thanks for any help. It is appreciated.

Gerry and Deb A.
Gerry, I live In Mesa, AZ and am very interested in knowing where you can get pork products from the chemically sensible farmer!
Deb A. I FIRMLY believe from my own experiences that something about MSG or MSG sensitivity plays havoc with the thyroid tests.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto Disease and Graves Disease at the same time and in the same breadth by the endocrinologist. One is Hypo thyroid the other is hyper thyroid.
I did my own research and decided that their knowledge is very limited. When I found your and NOSoy sites my life improved .... with no thyroid medications.
Now, I recognize that most MSG people complain about inactive thyroid if thyroid is part of their problem. For me the scary part was hyperthyroid symptoms ...especially rapid pulse BUT I have nailed that down to MSG ....remember my little soup story?
I would encourage you to work with your doctor to adjust thyroid medication according to how you feel physically, not what the tests indicate how you are doing. Sorry to have to say it, but it is like first learning about MSG, except you are now one of the leaders on overcoming chemical induced problems in the world. You KNOW how to Listen to YOUR BODY, do what is right for you.
The test that went low was below the threshold of detection. The one tha was high was so high it was off scale. This condition contiued for almost 3 years until they finally came into the detectable /measurable range. They continued to move towards the normal high and low ranges. Finally about a year later they were within normal ranges. After two years of normal thyroid readings I quit going to the endocronoligist. I never agreed to thyroid medicine....which should I have taken? for Hyper Thyroid or Hypo.....
Even Mayo clinic's solution was to kill my thyroid and put me on synthroid for the rest of my life. Today I have an occasional thyroid flare up, almost always when I eat too many things I know have MGS in them.
I suggest you use the utilities to search the Archives for thyroid posts.....DebA and members of this board saved my life.

Thank you, Sleuth John B., your answer helps a lot. I 'feel' I have been hypo for quite some time with low body temps ever since I can remember. I really don't know if I need the medicine or if it will improve, or if I should do it for a short duration?? We did eat a lot of processed quick foods while I was growing up. I eat way better now, but still am running into issues and the food allergies/intolerances started up about five to seven years ago...I had two weeks of feeling great on round one of T3. I am now on round two, cycling down, I know I feel better than I have, but I was hoping to avoid some of the dosing mistakes that others have gone through...I am convinced the MSG has played into my issues...There are too many commonalities. I would suggest that my problems started in childhood due to the processed foods, continued in hidden sources of MSG, and now I am dealing with the fallout of those years. I cleaned up my diet by getting my food intolerances diagnosed, but now I still react even if I am eating 'clean' which I then found out about the hidden MSG which I am convinced is the final piece of the puzzle. I have found that I react to free glutamate foods as well. I am intolerant to potatoes which I found are high in sulfites, so I am wondering about the sulfite sensitivity issue in making people more sensitive to the MSG. I also am intolerant to seafood which means iodine is out for me...like I said I seem to be caught in a vicious circle of one issue compounds another...I hope to get out of that circle. This post might should have gone under the heading of I just found my connection.
