I am wondering if anyone has tried Maca Root and did well with it? I was reading the breakdown of naturally occuring nutrients in it and one thing that stood out was it has Glutamic Acid (high levels in comparison to the other aminos in it) and not sure if that is Glutamate or different?
I don't know how they make the powder - what the process is, and whether or not is has free glutamate from the Glutamic Acid in it due to the processing.
I am highly sensitive to many many things and so I am afraid to try this product, however, I have heard such great things about it - not specifically for those who have msg sensitivities but for general well being, energy, and health, as well as for hormonal balancing.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Glutamic Acid is just Glutamate that's not bound to anything. In other words, it's more accurately known as Free Glutamic Acid, which many people here are more sensative to compared to Naturally Bound Glutamate even if it's Naturally Free Glutamic Acid. The "ate" at the end just means that it's attached to something else. Another example is Citrate and Citric Acid, which is just the freed version of Citrate. Processed free glutamic acid is the functional part of MSG which makes it fundamentally equivilent to MSG.

It's an oxymoron to use to term "Free Glutamate". It should be "Free Glutamic Acid"

Thank you Kevin - although it is disappointing to hear. Do you know why ppl would be more sensitive to free glutamic acid vs. bound? Does being "bound" to something else diminish the effects of the msg?
Since I am extremely sensitive at this time, looks like this product is one to avoid. *sigh*
I know everyone has different levels of sensitivities but still interested to see if anyone else has at least tried it.

Thanks Kevin! I am familiar with that site but hadn't read that page - good info
Since all protein has glutamate in it, that begs the question of how anyone with msg sensitivities can ingest anything at all with protein as some here can, but others like myself are finding almost every source of protein a no go - tuna and eggs are right now my primary sources.
I realize everyone is a little different in their sensitivities, but msg is msg is msg and so if one is sensitive at all, how is it some can get away with some things and not others. I know this is an often asked question and I am not necessarily asking you or anyone here for a distinct answer, as I think that is just one of the mysteries of this condition.
I myself am just trying to find a diet that not only works for me but keeps me healthy, satiated, and nutritionally balanced.
