No problem, Di, it just adds to the warning. I think the food industry may be pushing this now because they have been emboldened by their victory against labeling genetically modified foods in California. If they get away with this I expect them to try hiding aspartame and more in everything.

With the advent of neotame, the warning label that is required for phenylalanine is no longer required. Which is strange considering that neotame actually contains phenylalanine. And apparently it's much more dangerous than aspartame. I heard that they were going to start feeding this to livestock first before introducing it to human food, but I've already seen it listed as an ingredient on sugar free gums.

I just heard a radio ad from my local grocery store. It began about GMOs and that the FDA didn't declare labeling necessary, but that some people want to know what they are eating. So they were now labeling nonGMOs. I thought that interesting. Anyone else heard/seen something similar?

Yes, I've seen this--it's the only way to know that you're not getting GMOs if you eat corn, soy, canola, cottonseed oil, and soy.

I think I read sugar beets, papaya and dairy with rBGH are part of it too.

I know, I should have mentioned sugar beets too. For that reason we should look for "cane sugar" explicitly labeled instead of just "sugar." Ugh. 95% of sugar beets in the US are GM. I read that 80% of papaya in the US is genetically modified (as of 2010).

The great thing is that we are already avoiding a lot of GM corn by avoiding MSG. I cut MSG out of my diet first, then all GMOs. I'm glad I didn't try to do it all at once. If you live in the US, they're seriously in everything--just like MSG. If anyone has any information about avoiding GMOs in Europe (especially Berlin and Germany), that would be greatly appreciated as I plan on visiting next month!
