Today DH got an avocado....the sticker says "ripe now" like it's some special thing. Product of Mexico.

While it does feel ripe, the skin looks slightly dehydrated, and on the sunken parts, there are a bunch of grey spots. I don't think it's mold; it doesn't scratch off easily but it appears to have a waxy constitution.

A Google search didn't reveal anything useful...are these sprayed with some sort of anti-ripening chemical?

I have seen Ripe Now stickers at Safeway - I assume them are the old ones from previous box not new ones.

They do use gas to ripen avocados like they use gas to ripen bananas. I don't know if they wax avocados too - but wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Right now they are off my diet - too many overripe ones ended up getting bad - guess they ran out of Ripe Now stickers.
