Deb A - I think you commented a while back that you sometimes react to strawberries and tomatoes. I have done OK with non-organic and organic strawberries while I have yet to experiment with tomatoes. I wonder if your reactions may be partially or fully due to the natural histamines that exist in both. I read about this at: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/living/Healthology/realfood_allergy020430.html |

PS Here is another reference about naturally occuring histamine in produce which they refer to as vasoamines: http://www.aromacaring.co.uk/hives_nettle_rash_or_urticaria.htm |

The huge California strawberries just about knock me on my keister! Beware of California produce. AUXIGRO Notice that when produce has been on sale lately for ridiculous prices-it is California produce.... |

Thanks Anon. I think we should all collect the labels from the vegies and fruit we buy so we can individually write to all the growers to find out what they use with specific mention to Auxi-Gro. PS Give yourself a name. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can still use a new nickname that you will use in the future --- it gives us all a point of reference on who we are talking to if you have repeat postings. Thanks! |

I did call one company and was told that after they pile the boxes on palattes, they wrap them in heat sealed plastic and then make a hole in one spot and pipe in nitrogen dioxide. This is for strawberries being shipped to distances mostly. Then when they arrive, the green grocer is supposed to immediately unwrap the palatte. If they don't, (and some don't) too much of the nitrogen gets into the strawberries and it can cause terrible stomach reactions and headaches for some individuals. But I suspect that AuxiGro is partly responsible for the gigantic strawberries I see. I like the flavor of the smaller ones, so we look for those, especially if they are locally grown. I seem to do fine with those. I am okay with tomatoes that are not overly ripe and which are not simmered for long periods of time. |

Does anyone else has problem with edema besides me? Whenever I eat something accidentally that contain MSG, I start retaining fluid. |

Yes, Anonymous, I actually weigh more when I wake up then when I go to bed if I've ingested msg. (By the way, give a name, any name, since there are so many Anonymous entries on this board). Thanks. |

Anonymous, MSG increases histamine response. Histamine is involved in inflammation response - which includes swelling and retaining water. |

Carol, From what I see, the problem is not all MSG. Yes, MSG triggers a histamine response -- which is an allergic response. BUT, histamine *can* also be an allergen as bad as or worse than MSG. This is noted by the people here who are complaining about reactions to strawberries and tomatoes. Both are high in natural histamine and both which in themselves can cause allergic reactions (without any MSG). Might be time for a little dose of antihistamine (see discussion topic on this forum). IC, Too true. Some reactions are to histamine itself. Unfortunately, the presence of MSG can increase an already occurring histamine response to something else. |

Hi, I live smack in the middle of the Auxigro mess and developed a serious sensitivity to MSG about 8 years ago. Let me tell you about this stuff (if I have an evil look in my eyes, it's for a good reason). This crap is ground and ariel applied. Ground applaction is in the form of a milk-looking, sticky liquid. My car got absolutely drowned in this stuff coming home one day, they don't care where they spray it or who gets hurt. Thankfully I had the windows rolled up the the vents closed, a habit I've developed living in this area. Auxigro is not limited to just tomatoes or strawberries, this was being applied to almonds. Lettuce is also sprayed. For a list and info go to www.truthinlabeling.org He's really good about getting back to you if you have questions or comments and the site is very informative. |

Interesting, since I have recently become allergic to almonds now. It seems any food with high amounts of free glutamic acid is a major allergen. I was allergic to chicken for a while, milk, wheat, and peanuts. I think while not being an allergen itself, MSG and free glutamic acid, heighten the allergic response to food proteins. |
