In a pinch over the weekend, I went out to eat at a mexican restaurant with family and friends. I ordered a side order of rice and black beans and corn tortillas. I asked for no cheese on anything. To my surprise I had no reaction. Has anyone else had success with mexican restaurants? |

Yes, certain ones. I do well with quesadillas, too. Some restaurants add "Sazon", another word for seasoning salt with MSG, to their rice and beans...be sure to ask. |

I have found Mexican restaurants to be safer place to eat than most restaurants. I avoid any meat, beans or rice. Nachos with light cheese or just chips and salsa are normally all I dare try. I still ask exactly how they make their chips and salsa (which can be a challenge if there is a language barrier). Be sure to avoid all sour cream, but occasionally guacamole can be safe if you ask them a million questions to confirm how it was made. Even if I am only munching on chips while watching other people chow down on a burrito, it is better than eating nothing, which happens at some other restaurants. |

Of course if you've also got a nightshade sensitivity, you can't even have the salsa... |

I eat at Mexican restaurants regularly and have had no reaction either. I stay away from meat, but still eat fish (nothing deep fried though) and I LOOOOVE quesadillas. the more cheese, salsa and guacamole the better. No problems here. These are all small family owned restaurants, using good ingredients. Good stuff However, store bought tortilla chips are a whoooole other story. Most have hidden MSG in them and I will have a reaction. Also most salsa's other than "Amy's" brand. I make my own in the summertime and stick with plain tortilla chips... |

I've only eaten at one Mexican Restaurant since I figured out what's been happening. It's one I've been going to for years. They don't season their meat and make their own salsa, so I ordered my tamales without the red sauce that they put all over everything. No headache afterwards, so I was quite pleased. |
