I was just diagnosed 3 days ago with MSG poisioning and was told to avoid it at all costs. Sunday was DH birthday and my son took us to eat at the Texas Roadhouse Resturant. I knew from reading this site to ask if I could get my food fixes without MSG and when I did...the manager gave me a list of foods that they prepare that contain MSG!! I was so shocked! I ended up eating a Cheeseburger and about 3 french fries. I did have a little dizziness and ringing in my ear after eating, but NOTHING like when I'd eat before!! I just wanted to let everyone know that Texas Roadhouse Resturant is friendly!! |

This is one more example of the fact that there is no such thing as a safe restaurant. Any restaurant that tells you that their food does not contain MSG is either ignorant or lying. Never eat at restaurants! Avoiding MSG means being paranoid. And just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you. They -are- out to get you. That's why the glutes hide MSG inside other ingredients. Every restaurant is quilty until proved innocent. And I'm not interested in hearing any evidence that they are innocent. It is simpler to avoid all of them. Restaurants are in the business of selling what tastes good. Whether it actually -is- good is of little or no importance to them. To make food taste good they put flavoring in it, which often includes MSG in some form. Restaurants are in the business of -taste-, not health, not nutrition. MSG is one of their products. Look upon restaurant food as a MSG delivery system. |

Interesting...the TRH I went to in the Mesa, AZ area told me that most of their food was MSG, and it relatives, free, that most of their stuff was 'homemade'. I've always thought myself not htat sensitive, but lately I have begun to wonder as I still eat somethings with maltodextrin and spices. I've been thinking that I need to rethink that and test it ;-) Anyway, after eating at TRH I didn't have any headaches or even a runny nose. What about Outback Steakhouse? They said the same thing regarding 99% of their food beign freshly made and no bouillon etc. So far, I havent' had any severe and obvious reactions. Well, I have really enjoyed seeing all the new things on Deb A's site and I am going to try that very serious 3 day test. |

Well, I answered my own question about Outback Steakhouse...they have all kinds of free glutamates in their 'homemade' food; even in the butter!! My father in law thinks I'm insane, as we went there last night for my birthday (his treat) and I was doing a ton of questioning! The server and the manager where VERY nice about helping me eat 'purely', though. I'm glad that we don't really eat out very often...I just need to buckle down and be an extreme purest ;-) |

I went to TX RH in Longmont, CO and had an extreme allergic reaction. As I've eaten there before, (steak, mushrooms, potatoes, brocolli, cheese and rolls) and not reacted like that, I'm suspecting the Chocolate Brownie. Something about it tasted 'artifical'. As I am EXTREMELY allergic to aspertame/nutrasweet, and as I had that kind of reaction, complete with migrane and brain fog, plus the inability to stay awake for the next twenty hours. I'm wondering what I ate that was so toxic to me. Any ideas? Would they put aspertame in their brownine? |

I find it hard to imagine that the brownie had aspartame in it. You can call and ask. You are describing a typical reaction of MSG. Perhaps the cook has begun to add more to the dishes...that happens all the time. Or your system has reached it's limit and you are now reacting to MSG....a sensitivity can be triggered overnight. |
