Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a very long time. I found this board about 4 years ago and there are no words to describe how it saved my life.
This board, the people on it, and Deb's book pulled me back into the world of the "living" again. I was so incredibly sick, but over time (a very long time - more than a year) I was feeling well and normal again. My new way of eating was no longer a "chore" and to feel great again was a blessing beyond words!
Now the bad news......Within the past 6 months or so, I began to get lazy. A little here, a little there. I've even been able to eat in restaurants occasionally without too many problems - (something I never would have done 2 years ago). Experimenting a little too much with things in the grocery store that I knew better than to try, and just overall pushing it way too far.
Last night I sat down to dinner at Red Lobster. I had shrimp. Scampi and coconut shrimp. I woke up this morning feeling like I haven't felt in 4 years. My face is puffy, I have dark circles under my eyes and I felt "off" and depressed all day. Tonight I have a migraine headache and all the symptoms that go along with it. I'm dizzy and off-balance and having flashbacks to being almost bedridden like I was before I discovered this forum 4 years ago.
To log back on here this evening, and see this board still going strong, and familiar faces is such a comfort. I know I'll be fine in a few days, I've fallen off the wagon so to speak, but at least this time I know what I need to do to get back to where I need to be.
So, to all of you who are still here, doing what you do to help others, thank you. This board is helping so many!!!

Kimmar, Although sorry to hear of your "falling off the wagon" it's great to hear that you were able to feel well after simply changing your eating. You know, we all get lazy or get drawn in to the "let's eat out" scene at times, and then pay for it later, but to know that you can regain your feeling of well being by going back to the diet you had grown accustomed to, is comforting. Might I suggest that you post your success story under the topic "Share your MSG Story/Recovery". It certainly deserves to be there.

Hi Kimmar, im new to the board. Its been such a great help to me i cant tell you. I think i too can be guilty of "falling off the wagon" on occasion. Sometimes its just hard to resist the temptation when out and about living our lives. But we are truly blessed to know what the problem is and be able to get better quickly. For me the main symptoms are IBS and it only takes a twinge to make me take notice of what i ate that day. Hope you are soon feeling better.

Kimmar - Thanks for posting your experience with Red Lobster. I, too, have been hungry for shrimp and thinking about ordering shrimp scampi the next time we eat out (possibly at Red Lobster). Guess I will forget that! I will benefit from your bad experience since you shared - thanks again!

Guys, you can make the best grilled shrimp very easily. I buy the raw tail on shrimp from Costco...no preservatives...but still wash in a bowl of cold water, and change the water a couple times...drain well. Melt 1/3 c. of good butter and add the juice of 1/2 small lemon...1 T. and a minced garlic clove, some pepper and salt and pinch of cane sugar. Skewer the shrimp on bamboo or metal skewers and lay on large cookie sheet. Brush butter over the shrimp and grill 3 to 4 minutes on each side....so good. To make coconut shrimp, beat enough organic white flour or whole wheat flour with enough water to make a thick cream...add some salt. Dip each raw shrimp into the batter and then dredge in natural dry coconut...no sulfites. Fry in some oil till golden. I make a dipping sauce of chopped mango, organic grapes, water, salt, sugar, vinegar to taste...simmer till thick like a chutney. Kimmar, thanks for your story...it helps all of us and we can relate!

I can see why you got sick from the shrimp scampi. Red Lobster doesn't list ingredients on their web site, but I did find this on a forum:
"This is an ingredient list for the garlic sauce they use on the shrimp scampi. The guy was so nice there that he cut it off the box for me.
Garlic powder, maltodextrin, salt, onion powder, hydrolyzed soy protein, torula yeast, dehydrated parsley, malic acid, sugar, natural and artificial flavor (maltodextrin, butter oil), with not more than 2% silicon dioxide added as an anti-caking agent. Contains: Milk, Soy."

Sorry, but I said I used organic grapes in the dipping sauce for the coconut shrimp....it's supposed to be raisins or dry currants...but I suppose grapes would work!

Hi Deb- can we be sure organic grapes are safe? i had some tonight (brand full circle from Giant Eagle) and i swear it caused a reaction. i emailed the company to ask if they were treated w/ sulfites...
