I started using a weight loss product called Fucothin about 18 months ago. I stopped because I was having chest pains and a pressure headache after several days or a week of use. It does help me lose weight when I use it, so I started using it again two or three times since hoping the symptoms I was having were caused by something else I was using. The ingredients are Brown Seaweed Fucoxanthin Concentrate and Pomegranate Seed Oil with other ingredients (the capsule) having: gelatin, glycerin, palm oil, purified water. I take other supplements in gelatin capsules and don't react to them. I know carrageenan is seaweed. Are these seaweeds the same? Would fucoxanthin be glutamate as well?

This seaweed (like all seaweed) is going to be high in glutamates. Not only will it cause an msg type reaction, it will have high levels of iodine. Large doses of iodine can have adverse effects on the function of your thyroid. If you are not super sensitive, you may be able to eat small amounts of seaweed from time to time, but highly processed seaweed supplements are probably out of the question forever.

Just because you don't react the gelatin in the supplements doesn't meant that it won't have a harmful affect on your health in the long run, so it's up to you whether or not you want to take that risk. Determining the effects of MSG on one's health is much more complicated than just waiting a few days or so for a palpable reaction. Please feel free to read my article about the cover-up of hidden MSG:
