My son was diagnosed with autism at 2yrs old, No "expert" could help treat him and so the years went by until I took control and healed my son of autism before he turned 6yrs old. Four years later, I see that nothing has changed. If the information was available in the form of a protocol, I could have treated him faster instead of rubbing him of his childhood as I was trying to figure it all out. I'm just a mother with a story, but I would love to share my story and perhaps it could help save a child. Please let me know if I can post all the details. Thank you, El

As someone with a close friend whose ten-year-old daughter is severely autistic, I'd be more than interested in hearing your story.

Wow. Yes, please do share.
I've heard that avoiding gluten and casein can heal autism. Is this what you did?

Received this touching email recently:
"Hello, I reviewed your website.. found it off google.com and I saw that you have a few things listed for allergy to MSG... the point is my son is 1 and has a rare disease called mastocytosis in 3 different forms. One of the big allergy or triggers for this disease is MSG. His disease not only cause serious allergies to everything including sunlight but causes cancer (mast cell luekemia), MSG is the number one thing on the list of NO NO's to give a child with mastocytosis and since only 200,000 cases of mastocytosis are known in the world could you please add it onto your website so that doctors can help more children. Right now my child has a 50% survival rate and if it develops the cancer, will only have 2-6 years to live, if we can get more awareness then we can get more people to research a cure and as of now most doctors have no idea what it is. So Please since MSG is the topic and a huge Mastocytosis problem please help us and add this disease to your list on your website. If you would like to recieve information on this disease please ask and I will send you a ton. I spend day and night on this computer looking for some answers to help my baby so I am here all the time feel free to message back."
I told A.D. that we would post it here, on our site and in our book, hoping it would help others.

We are also new to removing FGA from our son's diet. He is 9 and was slowly becoming nearly intolerable to live with. Anxiety and depression. After 3 weeks of a strict diet he was smiling again ALL DAY, we are so happy to have found him again. Sadly I accidentally fed him Malted Barley and he regressed, but never back to his 'dark' days. now over 6 weeks in we never want to go back!
We so so much promise and potential for him to have joy in his life again, wonderful for our whole family.

Hi Dutchbabies. Well that is just wonderful news that you have your son "back". I too am dealing with children sensitive to MSG on a daily basis. I have two children that can tolerate malted barley and my youngest cant. My eldest and youngest suffer severe disruption to moods and behaviour when fed msg or aspartame. My youngest is probably more sensitive to aspartame more than msg. Not that i would willingly give her either. My eldest was kept back a year in school because of emotional problems at just 4 years old. He is now 15 and the most happy go lucky teenager you could meet. He is currently taking part in a University program for gifted children. He is reaching his full potential, something im sure he would never have reached if we hadn't made the changes you are making for your son. He is living proof that you can successfully make these changes for your son and have the joy of seeing him reach his goals and be happy with life. I wish you every success in your journey. And i would also say that we as a whole family have seen improvements to our health through making the changes for our children. My husband and I both follow an msg free diet and have seen remarkable improvements in our health and wellbeing. Both mental and physical.
You are doing a wonderful thing for your son. He is lucky to have such an astute parent that has figured this out for him.

Welcome, Dutchbabies (who I know IRL too )!! So good to see you here, and glad to know you verified it was the malted barley that caused your setback.

We are now on our 4th month. I believe the damage that has been done on our son's developing brain will take a long time to undo. He was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and I have written the SPD foundation about our wonderful findings, I have not heard back.
We still have some bad days, I'm finding that most of it is a carry over from the damage and bad habits (we could not properly 'discipline' him, not even natural consequences went over well), good thing he never got hurt too bad with his sensory seeking.
So we are being tough on him to try to undo the habits he has had. At times it is almost as if he tries to have a fit like he used with ease (not by choice) which put the problems off for another time. He can't even lose his temper, he tries and can't. Strange I know, but he has to deal with the consequences of his actions and this is hard when he did not before.
If you looked cross at him before he'd be hiding or sobbing or flipping out for 10-90 minutes. He was a flight risk if you raised your voice or were cross at him.
Now he has some of those flight reactions, but he returns very present and logical, where before he was not. I always say he had seizure like mood swings. He was out of control, out of his mind, and no memory of what had happened. He would be tired yet lucid after each episode. I feel it was how he detoxed his brain.
It is a slow uphill climb, but worth it!

I have been sensitive to MSG for many years, finally figuring out for myself what was causing my severe headaches. Within the past year, I have developed leaky gut syndrome so have been making the changes to accommodate that-GF, no potatoes, eggs, dairy, sugar or preservatives. Today I am suffering the 'hangover' of yet another headache and in doing the research to figure out 'why' I came across the list of the alternate forms. How are you supposed to use alternatives when all the alternatives are on the no-no list?! It has been a frustrating and discouraging day. I also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue so need my supplements to keep going.....gelatin. I have made my own bread....xanthine. I have used nutritional yeast in making salad dressing...msg related! Wow...sorry, just needed to vent

Welcome to the discussion board.
Many of us here found out about MSG and other Excitotoxins after suffering the affects of their ingestion for many years. During those years, we also medicated ourselves (most to no avail) for the symptoms caused by these food born excitotoxins. So it is no wonder that the bulk of us come to this discussion board in a dazed state and with a sense of despair and denial about the food we eat causing such an astounding range of symptoms.
Those of us who have succeeded in the elimination of these excitotoxins from our diet have been able to wean ourselves off many of the medications we were taking. Some of us are not that lucky because of lasting damage done over the years. But I would say the majority of us have seen our lives substantially improved.
In my case, I was lucky enough to have a doctor who (although skeptical) allowed me to eliminate some medications once he saw I had my Atrial Fibrillation under control with MSG abstinence. Most doctors would not take that risk under the guidelines insurance companies place them under. So those of us under the care of doctors who do not recognize that the symptoms they are treating with medication may be caused by these excitotoxins, will not permit their patients to stop taking the medications.
Thus it becomes a personal decision on the part of a patient to believe that these excitotoxins are the cause of their symptoms. Once that belief is verified by success through abstention and a resulting improvement in health, patients will feel comfortable reassessing their future relationships with their doctors.
Regretfully, the health insurance industry has gotten more and more dictatorial with regard to their allowing even patients to make decisions about medications (see my posting about being forced to change blood pressure medication). Itís a dangerous catch 22 situation we patients need to battle, but I know for a fact if you avoid MSG in all its forms and other excitotoxins, your life will improve substantially.

SO well said, Tom! E.Utz, believe me when I tell you that many people who have found our site and book, have told us that the symptoms they reported to their doctors and who their doctors diagnosed as leaky gut, fibromyalgia, vertigo, migraine, chronic fatigue, etc., discovered that their "disorders" were actually symptoms of glutamate and aspartate toxicity. ALL of mine were. And after years of meds, I finally got my health back after going off MSG and the meds. We still get calls from people who are sure MSG is the cause of their disorder, but who are so afraid of stopping the drugs. We are not in a position to tell them to stop them, but we have told them if they want to, they need to wean themselves off slowly and carefully. Most doctors will not advise that for the reasons that Tom mentioned. The drug companies make billions due to the MSG filled foods and drugs we ingest today.
