I have been trying to figure out if I react to MSG or if it's something else or multiple things. Reactions I've had on and off for the last 10 or more years started with french fries from certain places, and the reaction would be sudden diarrhea-sometimes not making it to the restroom--and sometimes I wouldn't even be finished with the meal. Today I ate fish tacos from a family owned business and have numbness in my left cheek. Is that potentially a MSG reaction? No digestive issues yet...

There are many possible causes of facial numbness. Here are a few:

Fluffysmom, most french fries, whether ones you make yourself from a frozen bag from the grocery store, or ones in restaurants, will contain sulfites, which many who are MSG reactive, have a problem with, including me. And many also have MSG added in one form or another....together, MSG and Sulfites can cause an even more severe reaction. I react the same way you do to foods that contain one or both. The numbness may be due to MSG, and I have received reports of this symptom from about 5 other people over the years. You might keep a food journal, recording all your reactions and what you ate up to 48 hours before the symptoms began. It will help you make a connection.
