To my mom, I explained my symptoms as follows:

If you live on the 10th floor, and someone on the 20th floor overflows a bathtub, it will take some time for the water to reach you, and when the water is turned of on the 20th floor, it will take some time for the leak to stop on the 10th floor.

Has anyone here experienced skin rash as a result of MSG or sulfites?

If so, did it continue to build even though you stopped ingesting the offending food? (e.g. "slow to stop")??

Thanks,
Mike

Interesting question. I am also interested in knowing this. If the food with MSG I ingested 2 days ago could still be in my bowels and affect me today ? So if it does and I ingest some more MSG today it will give me a perfect storm of symptoms that might last for several days.

Your Mom must be proud of you. I know my grandson was always mixing potions at my house as a little guy, now he is in the Pharmacy School at the University, wants to do research. No big surprise there. You are helping people here by making us think out of the box. jarnapal, it is cumulative I think and your hypothesis looks possible. Mariann

Thank you Marian for you kind messages.

I actually printed this one out for my mom; you gave her a very big smile :-)

3 months ago, I had 1/2 rack of baby back ribs for dinner, and the other 1/2 for lunch the next day. I later learned was seasoned with:

BABY BACK RIBS - USDA Pork Ribs, Rib Rub (salt, brown sugar, sugar, spices, dehydrated onion, chili
pepper, paprika and extracts of paprika, silicon dioxide {prevents caking}, monosodium glutamate,
dehydrated garlic, tamarind extract, natural lime juice powder {corn syrup solids, lime juice solids, natural
flavors}, soybean oil, citric acid, dehydrated parsley, natural flavors, soy lecithin).
Baby Back Rib Sauce (high fructose corn syrup, water, tomato paste, vinegar, brown sugar, sugar, soy
sauce {water, wheat, soybeans, salt}, molasses, salt, modified corn starch, dextrose, raisin juice
concentrate, honey, tamarind extract, citric acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate {used to protect
quality}, chili pepper, dehydrated onion, garlic powder, spices, natural smoke flavor, natural flavors),
honey. CONTAINS: Soy, Wheat

---------------------

I didn't have a bad reaction, which means either I'm totally barking up the wrong tree (msg and/or sulfites), or it really is based on the cumulative load (straw that broke the camel's back).

Me too. It actually made me shudder when I read the list.

Mariann and Kristy, I just read this post and almost came down with a migraine just reading that ingredient list! Certainly an MSG BOMB for most of us.
